Concrete Resurfacing Gold Coast

Tired, faded or cracked concrete doesn’t always need replacing. Concrete resurfacing on the Gold Coast and the Tweed applies a thin coating system over the existing slab to restore the look, the colour and the slip resistance — at a fraction of the cost of demolishing and starting again. On a residential driveway, the result holds up for 10 to 15 years.

Resurfacing applies to existing concrete only — driveways, patios, paths, pool surrounds and commercial floors that need restoring rather than replacing.

Where Concrete Resurfacing Works Best

Concrete resurfacing suits most residential and light-commercial concrete surfaces. The most common applications across the Gold Coast and the Tweed:

Driveway Resurfacing

The most common job. Covers fading, hairline cracking and outdated stencil patterns on standard residential driveways.

Patio Resurfacing

Entertaining areas, alfresco zones and outdoor dining surfaces. Slip-resistant finishes are standard.

Path Resurfacing

Front paths, side access and walkways. Fast turnaround, minimal disruption.

Pool Surrounds Resurfacing

Heat-reflective light colours and P5-rated slip resistance for safe, cool pool decks.

Every application uses the same five-step preparation and coating process — the difference is the finish chosen and the substrate condition.

Concrete Resurfacing Finishes and Coating Systems

Concrete resurfacing comes in four main finishes, each suited to a different look and use:

Covercrete & Spraycrete

The base spray-applied system in a plain block colour. The most cost-effective finish, suited to driveways, paths and high-traffic areas where a clean, uniform surface is the goal.

Textured Concrete

splatter, orange peel and flecked finishes that add grip and hide hairline cracks. Common on driveways and pool surrounds.

Decorative Concrete

Custom colour and pattern combinations for homeowners who want a finish tailored to the property rather than a standard block colour.

Stencilled Concrete

Patterns laid over the base coat to mimic brick, cobblestone, tile or custom designs. Best on driveways, patios and entryways.

Two coating systems are used across these finishes. Shieldcoat Step Safe Heavy Duty is the system used for all non-stencil work — a premium acrylic, anti-mould coating with a P5 anti-slip rating (the highest available), 33 standard colours, custom tinting on request, and a 7-year Shieldcoat manufacturer warranty against flaking, peeling and cracking under normal use. Dulux Avista is used for stencilled finishes, where it is the better-suited system for stencil work.

Every concrete resurfacing job follows the same five-step process, regardless of whether the finish is plain coloured, textured, decorative or stencilled.

1
Cleaning

The existing concrete is pressure-washed to remove dirt, grease and surface contaminants. Proper surface preparation is the single biggest factor in how long the finish lasts.

2
Crack Repair

Any cracks or surface damage are repaired before coating begins. Hairline cracks up to about 3mm are repairable; wider cracks or signs of slab movement need to be assessed separately.

3
Primer

A bonding primer is applied across the prepared surface to ensure adhesion between the slab and the resurfacing coats.

4
Top coats

Three coats of the chosen system are applied. For stencilled finishes, stencils are laid during this stage before the final coat goes down.

5
Sealer

Two coats of clear sealer are applied as the final step, providing UV, stain and wear protection.

Concrete Resurfacing FAQs

Most residential resurfacing jobs on the Gold Coast start from around $50 per square metre. The final price depends on the size of the area, the condition of the existing slab, and the finish chosen. Every job is quoted on-site after a free assessment — more on resurfacing cost.

A properly applied resurfacing job holds up for 10 to 15 years on a residential driveway. The Shieldcoat Step Safe Heavy Duty system carries a 7-year manufacturer warranty against flaking, peeling and cracking under normal use. Surface preparation is the single biggest factor in how long the finish lasts.

Hairline cracks and surface damage up to about 3mm wide can be repaired during the prep stage and resurfaced over. A textured or flecked finish hides minor cracks better than a smooth one. If the slab itself is still moving, structural movement needs to be addressed first — no coating system holds over an unstable slab, and in some cases replacement is the better call than resurfacing.

No. Both coating systems used by Spray Your Concrete — Shieldcoat Step Safe Heavy Duty for non-stencil work and Dulux Avista for stencilled finishes — are rated P5, the highest anti-slip rating available. A textured finish increases grip further.

Most residential driveways are completed in one to two days on-site. The surface then needs to cure before use — typically 24 hours before walking on it, and 48 to 72 hours before driving, depending on weather. A clear timeline is provided at the on-site quote.
