Concrete Driveway Resurfacing Gold Coast

A faded, stained or cracked concrete driveway doesn’t need to be replaced — it needs to be resurfaced. Concrete driveway resurfacing on the Gold Coast is the practical alternative to ripping up an old slab and starting again. We lay a flexible, slip-resistant overlay over your existing driveway, in the colour and finish you choose, sealed to hold up against UV, traffic and weather. The job takes a day to apply, two to cure, and lasts ten to fifteen years.

Driveway Resurfacing Solutions for New & Old Concrete Surfaces

Driveway resurfacing covers three main routes, depending on the look you’re after — a plain block colour, a decorative stencilled or textured finish, or a sealing-only refresh on concrete that’s still in good shape underneath.

Covercrete & Spraycrete

The base spray-applied resurfacing system. A flexible, slip-resistant overlay laid over your existing slab. Covercrete driveways can be a plain block-colour finish, or as the base layer for stencilled and textured finishes. The most common choice for Gold Coast driveways.

Decorative Concrete Resurfacing

Stencilled patterns or textured finishes that mimic stone, slate, brick or wood. Stencilled driveways use the Dulux Avista system; textured finishes use Shieldcoat Step Safe Heavy Duty. Choose stencilled application for pattern-based looks, textured for natural-material looks.

Concrete Sealing

Standalone sealing for existing concrete driveways — protects against UV, stains, mould and slip. Epoxy or polyurethane, clear or tinted. Sealing is offered as a sibling service: every resurfacing job we do is sealed as part of the process, but we also seal existing driveways on their own.

Twenty years of industry experience goes into every driveway we resurface. Here’s how we do it.

1
Pressure Clean

The existing concrete is pressure-washed to strip out dirt, grease, oil, and any loose surface material. A coating is only ever as good as what’s underneath it — this step is non-negotiable.

2
Crack Repair

Any cracks or surface damage in the slab are repaired before a single coat goes down. Hairline cracks up to about 3mm get filled and bonded; anything wider gets sorted out properly first.

3
Bonding Primer

A primer coat is applied to the prepared slab. This is what locks the resurfacing system to the existing concrete — skip it or rush it, and the coating lifts inside two years.

4
Three Top coats

Three applications of Step Safe Heavy Duty go down for non-stencil work, or Dulux Avista if the driveway is stencilled. Three coats — not one — is what builds the depth of colour and the wear layer the surface needs to hold up to tyres.

5
Two Sealer Coats

Two coats of clear sealer finish the job. UV, stain, and wear protection — the sealer is what keeps a resurfaced driveway looking new for ten to fifteen years.

We’re a Gold Coast family business, in-house team, no subcontracting. The crew that quotes your driveway is the crew that applies it.

A note on what resurfacing won’t fix. Resurfacing covers hairline cracks up to about 3mm. Anything wider needs to be repaired before coating. And if the slab underneath is still moving — sub-base failure, structural cracking — that has to be addressed first, or no coating will hold. Gold Coast driveway restoration jobs starts with an honest assessment of the slab; if it’s not the right call, we’ll tell you.

Driveway Resurfacing Products We Use

Two systems, used for the right job. Step Safe Heavy Duty for plain and textured driveways. Dulux Avista for stencilled work. Both manufacturer-backed, both selected for the application — not because we run one product across every job.

Step Safe Heavy Duty
For Non-Stencil Driveways

A pre-mixed flexible anti-slip concrete coating manufactured by Shieldcoat. The default system for plain block-colour and textured driveway resurfacing.

  • P5 anti-slip rating — the highest classification, performs safely when wet
  • Premium acrylic resin — crack-resistant and fade-proof
  • Anti-mould additives built into the coating
  • 33 standard colours plus custom tinting at the on-site quote
  • 7-year Shieldcoat manufacturer warranty against flaking, peeling and cracking

Dulux Avista System
For Stencilled Driveways

The system we use for stencilled concrete driveway designs. Better-suited to stencil work than Step Safe — the Avista range was built around stencilled applications and stays the right call for that finish.

  • Backed by Dulux — one of Australia’s most established coatings manufacturers
  • Polymer-modified base compound — engineered for cured concrete
  • Purpose-built four-product system — primer, base compound, oxide, sealer
  • 20 standard colours plus a wide range of colour oxides
  • Low-VOC formulation (11 g/L) — safe for use around the home

Concrete Driveway Resurfacing Cost

Concrete driveway resurfacing on the Gold Coast starts from $50 per square metre. For a typical 30m² residential driveway, that works out to roughly $1,500 — a fraction of what you’d pay to demolish and re-pour the slab, and one of the bigger benefits of driveway resurfacing over a replacement.

What moves the number on a specific quote:

  • Size of the driveway. Larger jobs scale down on a per-square-metre basis; smaller jobs sit closer to the upper end of the range.
  • Condition of the existing slab. A driveway that needs significant crack repair or extensive pressure cleaning takes longer to prep, and prep is where the time goes.
  • Finish chosen. Plain block colour sits at the lower end. Textured and stencilled finishes sit higher — more product, more application time, more skill in the lay-down.
  • Number of colours. A two-colour fleck or a stencil with multiple oxides costs more than a single-colour finish.
  • Access and site conditions. Awkward access, drainage, or surrounding work affects the day-rate.

Every quote is free and on-site — we measure the driveway, look at the slab, and give you a real number on driveway restoration before you commit to anything. For a deeper breakdown, see how much driveway resurfacing costs.

Driveway Resurfacing FAQs

Resurfacing isn’t the right option when the slab underneath has structural problems — active movement, cracks wider than about 3mm, sub-base failure, or drainage issues forcing water under the concrete. Resurfacing is a coating system that lays over the top of the existing slab, so it relies on what’s underneath being sound. Apply it over a slab that’s still moving and the coating won’t hold — cracks reflect through inside a year or two. We’ll tell you straight at the on-site quote if the slab isn’t a candidate.

There are three ways to make an old concrete driveway look better, depending on the state of the driveway. If the surface is tired but the slab is sound, a covercrete resurface in a fresh block colour is the most cost-effective option. If you want a pattern or natural-material look, a stencilled or textured decorative finish works on the same base system. And if the concrete is still in good shape and you just want to protect it, sealing alone is enough. Driveway restoration usually starts with a free on-site assessment to work out which of the three is right for the slab.

Nine times out of ten, it is better to resurface a concrete driveway on the Gold Coast — provided the slab is structurally sound. Resurfacing costs a fraction of slab replacement, the job’s done in a day instead of weeks, and the result is a driveway with a fresh, sealed surface that lasts ten to fifteen years. Replacement is the right call when the underlying concrete has actually failed: active movement, sub-base failure, large structural cracks. For a deeper comparison, see driveway resurfacing vs replacement.

Yes — hairline cracks up to about 3mm get repaired before any coating goes down. We fill, bond, and sand them flush as part of the prep. A textured or flecked finish then hides minor surface imperfection better than a smooth single-colour finish does, so for driveways with a few small cracks, a textured or stencilled finish is usually the better call. A slab that’s actually moving is a different conversation — concrete driveway repair on that scale needs to be assessed before we can quote resurfacing.

About one day for application on a typical residential driveway. After the final sealer coat goes down, you’ll need to keep foot traffic off it for around 24 hours and avoid driving on it for about 48 hours while it cures fully. Larger driveways, stencilled work, or jobs needing significant crack repair can run a day longer. We’ll give you a clear timeline at the on-site quote.

Ten to fifteen years on a typical residential driveway when the prep is done properly. The Shieldcoat Step Safe Heavy Duty product we use carries a 7-year manufacturer warranty against flaking, peeling and cracking under normal use — that’s the manufacturer’s product warranty, separate from anything else. Two factors decide whether a job lasts at the upper or lower end of that range: the quality of the prep, and the quality of the sealer coats. We don’t cut corners on either.
